PuTTY	A terminal package that supports SSH and SCP. This is a Windows product. There are other tools for other platforms. PuTTY Home Page Windows ZIP file for version 0.52

JDK	The Java Development Kit v. 1.4 This is the J2SE platform. It's available for a variety of operating systems. The documentation is on the same page.
Tomcat	This is the Web server/servlet engine. Download page for version 4.0.3. The installation instructions are included, or click here. Documentation is available, though it seems to be incomplete.
MySQL	The relational database engine. Runs under Windows and Unix. Download v. 3.2.3 Documentation

Protomatter Database Connection Pool	Classes for managing connection pools. You'll need to put this jar in your classpath if you want to use it.  SourceForge page Docs on this server Sample app. source code
JDOM	A light DOM for doing XML from Java. Home page
MyCC	A client for MySQL, used for remote exploration and administration of databases. Available for Windows and Linux. The project is still developing, but the software is fairly solid. There is no documentation, but we nerds don't need that, do we? Download page
NetBeans	Java IDE supporting applets, servlers, and JSP. Includes GUI development tools. Integrates well with Tomcat (so it is claimed - I haven't tried it). Runs on a variety of operating systems. Home page Download v. 3.3.1
