SBA Scholars Programs
Freshman Business Scholars

The Freshman Business Scholars program will set the stage for an enriching and distinctive university experience.

As an SBA Freshman Scholar, you will:

  • Be on the fast-track in the business school and be set apart from other freshman
  • Register for sophomore level business courses during your second term at OU
  • Earn major standing in accounting, business economics, finance, general management, human resources management, management information systems, marketing, or operations management at least one or two semesters before most incoming freshman
  • Become a Dean's Scholar and receive a $250 scholarship per semester, for up to four semesters, after achieving major standing.  At least a 3.2 cumulative GPA is required to be considered a Dean's Scholar.
  • Be invited to the Freshman Scholar Kick-Off in each fall and winter semester.
  • Be invited to become a Sophomore Scholar if you meet the requirements.
  • Have the opportunity to participate in a new high school outreach program.

High achieving high school seniors who have been admitted to the SBA will be invited to participate in an accelerated track which will allow students to begin their business pre-core during their freshman year . Completion of minimum requirements does not guarantee final selection. Spaces are limited. A letter will be mailed to students informing them of the decision.

Students must:

  • Have a High School GPA of 3.5
  • Have an ACT math score of 24 or higher
  • Have an ACT composite score of 22 or higher
  • Be Admitted to the SBA

Freshman Scholars would be able to earn Major Standing in the SBA by the end of fall semester of their sophomore year; one to two semesters earlier than other students.  In addition, Freshman Scholars would take three classes (one each semester) as a cohort: MIS 100, ACC 200, and ECN 210.

If you have received a letter inviting you into the Freshman Business Scholars program, here are the steps you need to take to continue the application process:

  • Click here to obtain your OU email account.
    • If you supplied your birthdate on your records, your PIN will be your birthdate (MMDDYY). If you did not supply your birthdate to OU, then try the last six digits of your Grizzly ID as your default PIN.
    • If neither of these works, follow the instructions at http://www2.oakland.edu/grizzid to reset your PIN back to the default (your birthdate or last six digits of your Grizzly ID). Check the SAIL PIN Reset box.
  • Click here to sign in to the SBA Advising Portal.
    • Click on the Student Login link on the left and then log in with your newly created OU Email username (minus the @oakland.edu) and password.
    • Then, follow the link on the left for 'Scholars Application'
    • Fill out the form and click 'Submit Application'

The OU SBA is accredited by AACSB International, having earned the excellence that places us among the best business schools in the world.

An adviser will work with each student to assist in schedule planning.
