Fall 2007 Business Quarterly
Bright colorful autumn leaves on the ground displaying magnificent patchwork
Reminding us that different colors coming together creates a beautiful world
Daring us to look beyond our differences in an increasingly small world and
Create a patchwork of thought and skill to help the world live in harmony

A Quick Summary

The art of integrative (holistic) thinking and the challenge of combining diverse skills are increasingly important for businesses to effectively compete in the global marketplace. Oakland University's School of Business Administration considers integrative thinking a priority and has implemented several multidisciplinary research projects and programs. Students experience the power of integrative thinking in one such program (namely Applied Technology in Business).

The ATiB minor degree program, the hallmark of the integrative experience, remains a sought after option for both students and their corporate sponsors. To date, over 75 companies have generously donated over $3.5 million to support this innovative model which embeds students from eight different functional disciplines, in corporate project teams, to produce solutions dedicated to solving business problems with information technology. We invite you to check out the many curriculum enhancements made possible through such programs as ATiB, new skill development options with the Scholars and ACHIEVE programs and extracurricular activities such as Case Competitions.

Our strategies around integration have not only raised the bar in terms of development opportunities for students but serve to build an important bridge between theory and practice.  We welcome the opportunity to work with various institutions (business and non-business), so they may leverage our faculty talent and knowledge base. To facilitate this interaction, our faculty members have articulated many of their research interests along multiple themes within a "stakeholder, environment, management philosophy, and management action" based business framework. We encourage you to review our research section.

For information on various institutions with whom we are partnering, research in which our faculty are engaged, activities in which our students are involved, as well as information on our alumni (do not forget to read the reflections from one of our alumni), and outreach activities, please review the appropriate links.

We sincerely welcome you to partner with us as we LEAD* in making this grand challenge a successful one.
