Winter 2008 Business Quarterly

Integrated thought to advance scholarship and enhance leadership

A Quick Summary

Welcome to the Winter Issue of the SBA Business Quarterly.

This has been an unusually snowy winter in Michigan. Yet, the work of business school faculty and staff continues to move the school forward with greater energy and focus by continuing on our theme of "Integration."

Our integrated research approach continues to engage our faculty on issues posed by Blue Cross Blue Shield, Comerica, EAIG, EB Solutions, GM, National Water and Power, and the City of Rochester among others. For more information on these activities and the formation of an integrated business research council, check out the Research Section.

Our faculty continue to excel in their own research, to build global insight by interacting with faculty from India, Korea and Norway, and to participate in substantive professional activities to advance in their respective field. Check out the Faculty Section.

Our student leadership development is moving full-steam ahead. The “SBA Scholars” are organizing both professional and social events: etiquette dinner, bowling events, and other welcoming activities. The students are also engaged in competitions at both the national and international levels demonstrating the value of team work and preparation. See the Curriculum Section.

Our students also continue to engage in research, gain recognition for their accomplishments, and starting new student chapters. See the Student Section for individual accomplishments and recognitions.

Our integrated approach in research and education are supported by our institutional partners. With their help, we are addressing issues such as complexities in going green, understanding global dependencies and cultural differences, building quality products through collaboration, future of manufacturing, among others. Refer to the Outreach Section.

To further gain insight from our partners, we have formed a Business Futures Council that will help us collect input on future business needs and influence our planned research and educational agenda. Refer to the Institutions Section for more details.

In summary, we thank all of you for your support as we embark on this important journey to "integrate" our collective strength, wisdom and passion to create a greater impact from the School of Business Administration at Oakland University.

Look for our next bulletin in June 2008.
