To be
exempted from a core course, the applicant must have passed an equivalent
undergraduate course with a grade of 2.0 (C) or better within the previous ten
years. Exemption from a course reduces the total credits required for the MBA
degree. Students exempted from some or all of the core courses will be required
to take at least a minimum of 36 credits/12 courses. As part of the program, the MBA student
must take at least one graduate course in each of the functional areas: Accounting, Marketing, Production
Operation Management or Quantitative Methods, Finance, and Management
Information Systems. Example: If a
student has been waived from FIN 533, Financial Management because an equivalent
undergraduate course was completed, the student must complete a 600 level
Finance elective.
The
Office of Graduate Business Programs determines exemptions from core courses
after an evaluation of a student’s transcripts. A student will be allowed to take a core
course from which he/she has been exempted only with prior written approval from
the Office of Graduate Business Programs.
Integrative
Business Policy Course
The
integrative business policy course, MGT 535, is the capstone course students
complete at the end of their program. This course draws on all course work in
the MBA program in the analysis of real world cases in a team setting. MGT 535 is required of all MBA students.
