Text David P. Doane and Lori E. Seward, Applied Statistics in Business and Economics , 3nd Edition (McGraw-Hill, 2011). Download quizzes, tutorials, and data sets for textbook exercises from the Online Learning Center (OLC)  http://www.mhhe.com/doane3e  Look on the instructor’s  web page http://www.sba.oakland.edu/faculty/doane for class examples, data sets, and other materials.

Exams There will be four quizzes  (50% total weight). Graded quizzes will be handed back while we go over them in class, but quiz question sheets are confidential and must be returned after you note your mistakes. For each quiz, bring a Scantron form 882-E, a pencil, a calculator, and one page of notes (one-sided).

Projects There will be five mini-projects (50% total weight). Written mini-projects are due at the beginning of class on the date indicated for full credit. Partners or teams will receive the same grade unless peer evaluations indicate otherwise.

Grading You may be dropped if we find that you have not successfully completed the prerequisites (MTH 122, MIS 100, and QMM 240 or equivalent). If you do not complete all required work, you may receive a failing course grade regardless of your average on submitted work. Grade adjustments may be made to reflect the overall grade pattern and your class contributions (positive or negative). Persistent absence, tardiness, or chatting in class will harm your grade. You are responsible for knowing the university’s academic conduct policies and abiding by them. Beware of copying exams or plagiarism (including Internet material that is not attributed to its source).

Staying in Touch Ask general questions in class. For individual problems, talk to me just before or after class. My office is 353 Elliott Hall, my e-mail is doane@oakland.edu, and my  office telephone is 248-370-4002. Given the tight spring class schedule and evening class hours, the preferred mode of communication is e-mail.

Missed Work Missed quizzes or late assignments are penalized. In case of missed or late work, write a note explaining the reasons. Such notes will be considered at the end of the semester. If you know in advance that you will miss class, hand in the assignment early. In case of illness, get in touch as soon as possible and we will decide on the best action.
