In 1974 Oakland University began offering classes in what the U.S. Department of Labor projected to be one of the fastest growing career opportunities in this country. Thousands of graduates later, the demand for paralegals continues to grow--spurred by consumer demand for high quality, low cost legal services.

We invite you to click on the links below or scroll down for more information and to find out more about the many opportunities we have at Oakland University for people interested in becoming a Paralegal.

Paralegals may not offer legal services or advice directly to the public, except as permitted by law.

Attention Attorneys!

What our students are saying:

The Paralegal Program through Oakland University is one of the best investments I have made in my education and my legal career.  The instructors utilize a "real-world" approach in their teaching methods which gave me a greater understanding and "working knowledge" of legal concepts and procedures.  Throughout the Paralegal Program, I have continually increased my writing, communication and legal skills along with the competence to function at a higher professional level.  This program also provides the opportunity to acquire the essential level of proficiency and expertise needed within various specializations of the law.

I would highly recommend this program to anyone seeking a career within the legal field.

NETWORKING

Networking is the best tool anyone can have to help manage their career, and we encourage our students to attend events, meetings, and functions of professional organizations, and keep in touch with classmates and business associates. Please note our external links below, or click here to see what other paralegals are saying about networking and employment opportunities, from a back issue of LSM October 2007:

"...Consider coming to some paralegal meetings to do some networking – working paralegals are usually the first people who know if their companies are looking..."

Also, here is an article first published in the summer 2006 edition of The Paralegal /Legal Assistant Section of the State Bar of Michigan Newsletter. It is still so relevant for our paralegal professionals, as students and as graduates:
