The Valuation Professions

In recent years it has become evident that a demand exists for quality prepared and delivered real estate appraisal programs. Oakland University is excited to facilitate this area of professional need. The primary mission of implementing real estate appraisal programs at Oakland University is two-fold. The programs (1) provide a basis that will significantly raise the qualitative bar of real estate professionals, thereby simultaneously enhancing local industry decision making, and (2) provide results-oriented skills that will continue to shape the future of our real estate professionals.

Oakland University is proud to provide its own Real Estate Appraisal Education Program which includes the core 75 hours that the State of Michigan requires for the first level of appraisal licensing, the Limited Real Estate Appraiser License. These fundamental principles, procedures, and standards of professional practice provide the individual with the necessary tools to enter into the real estate appraisal field and/or provide a structured thought process that can be used in any decision making process involving property. Additional continuing education programs are scheduled to maintain appraisal licensure and provide appraisers with immediate professional deportment enhancing attributes.

The programs are designed to benefit individuals interested in becoming appraisers or better understand what to expect from appraisers in preparing supportable and defensible opinions of value. It is highly recommended for those that use or rely on appraisals, including assessors, developers, real estate brokers, investors, portfolio managers, accountants, financial planners, property tax agents, risk managers, arbitration neutrals, judges, and attorneys.

Oakland University’s programs are unique in two major areas. First, our instructors are highly experienced senior professionals with a tremendous background and learned insight into local appraisal practices. Second, the delivery of the material is based on how to think rather than what to think. This approach provides the professional with a results-oriented and long-lasting approach to learning the concepts and understanding its applications. It enables professionals to adapt to a ever changing climate rather than merely memorizing keystrokes on a calculator or keyboard.
