Regional competitions will be structured in the following way:

  • Twelve regions have been identified worldwide
  • Each competition will be managed by a regional coordinator who is a faculty member at a local university
    • not necessarily one of the competing teams
  • Prizes and financial support will be provided by a sponsoring company
  • No fewer than 5 teams of 3 students each will compete in each regional competition, with no more than 1 team from a single school, and including as many states/countries within a region as possible.
  • Each team is expected to have at least one student who is majoring in Information Technology, Information Systems or similar degree.
  • Winning universities at regionals may substitute team members for the World Finals (due to graduation, etc.)

A typical one-day regional competition consists of:

  • A brief welcoming session, which may include sponsor remarks
  • The presentation of the case challenge to the competing teams (or this may be sent to them prior to the competition)
  • Team preparation of the case solution
  • Team presentations to the judges - usually 30 minutes each, with an additional 15-minute question period
  • Deliberation by judges
  • Feedback to all teams on their presentation
  • Final results and awards ceremony, with photos of sponsor representative and winning teams
