SHRM Student Chapter Named One of the Top 10 Outstanding Chapters of the Year   SHRM Announces 2007-2008 Student Chapter Merit Award Recipients The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) in Alexandria, VA has bestowed the Superior Merit Award or Merit Award designation to the Student Chapter Name for an exceptional job of providing opportunities for growth and development to its student chapter members. "The SHRM Student Chapter Merit Award program continues to recognize the top student chapters, from among the more than 400 SHRM-affiliated student chapters nationwide. Recipients of the student chapter merit award have a proven track record of providing their members networking and educational opportunities which assist their members in making the transition from backpack to briefcase," said Chuck Salvetti, SHRM's Student Programs Manager. "SHRM is extremely proud of its award-winning student chapters and all of their accomplishments." Out of the more than 400 SHRM-affiliated student chapters nationwide, 112 submitted applications for this national award. 67 chapters earned the Superior Merit Award, and 38 chapters achieved Merit Award status. To earn the Superior Merit designation, chapters must complete at least 46 out of 60 activities. Merit award status is granted to chapters which complete between 34 and 45 activities, and honorable mention to chapters which have not completed the minimum number of activities required to receive a Merit or Superior Merit Award during the merit award cycle of April 1, 2007 to March 31, 2008. The SHRM student chapter merit award program, which began in 1972, exists to develop more effective student chapters, and to promote outstanding activities and projects by student chapters in four areas: basic student chapter requirements, chapter programming and professional development of members, support of the human resource profession, and partnership with SHRM. The Student Chapter Name receives a specialized plaque to display at the university, and is being recognized in SHRM's publications and at its conferences.
